Europäische Zentrum für Jüdische Musik (EZJM)

Established in 1988 by professor Andor Izsák in collaboration with the university of Augsburg, the European Centre for Jewish Music (EZJM) is based in Hanover since 1992. Professor Izsák was at the head of the institution until his retirement in 2012.
Since October 2015, professeur Dr. Sarah M. Ross is in charge of the studies of Jewish music, with a special focus on synagogal music. At the same time, Professor Ross has become director of the EZJM.
As part of the musicologic research and education at the university HMTMH, the EZJM is dedicated to research, reconstruction, documentation and education around Jewish music, as well as all its events, synagogal chants, and para-liturgic traditions, to the secular Jewish music and its traditions in the diverse periods and cultural difficulties.
The specialized library contains around 6500 documents.
