Pianist, composer, arranger and performer Maurice El Médioni (1928-2024), born in Oran (Algeria), was a major figure in Arabo-Andalusian music, rai and Franco-Arabic chanson. During his long career, he accompanied the greatest singers (Line Monty, Reinette l’oranaise, Samy Elmaghriby, Lili Boniche, Blond-Blond…) with his inimitable style that blended oriental music with jazz and Latin rhythms (rumba, cha-cha-cha…).
In March 2010, Maurice El Médioni donated several audio documents (CDs, Minidiscs, DATs), concert videos, programs and other archives retracing his career to the EIJM.
This collection was completed in 2020 by Didier Zuili – co-director with Valérie Cohen of the comic strip, CD and DVD Les stars du Music’hall d’Algérie (2006) – who gave the EIJM numerous interviews or filmed concerts by Maurice El Médioni, Youssef Hagège, Blond-Blond…
