He collaborated with with many artists in the musical and movie world, such as : Willie Nelson, Charles Mingus, Leonard Bernstein, Jack Kerouac, Langston Hughes, Dizzy Gillespie, Dustin Hoffman, Thelonious Monk, Odetta, Lionel Hampton, Ron Whitehead etc.
