Oyfn veg / En chemin – Popular Yiddish songs

Harmonizations by Jean Golgevit

Maison de la Culture Yiddish, Medem library, 2006.

Oyfn Veg / En chemin is a bilingual compilation of Yiddish songs, with also a few Judeo-Spanish Hebrew and French songs, most of them being standards of popular music. Harmonized by Jean Golgevit, choirmaster, creator of original works, and innovative teacher, the musical scores feature lyrics transliterated into the Latin alphabet, followed by the original lyrics in Hebrew and the French translation. Jean Golgevit offers several various harmonizations of the same song, thus encouraging various interpretations. This compilation will interest singers but also a wider audience which will discover, on the way, a shortcut to the Yiddish world.
