So We Dance, Israeli Folk Dance

This box set makes us feel again the warm atmosphere of the Israeli pioneers...

Published in the 1950s in New York by Reena Records Corporation, this box set of three 78 rpm discs is a pleasure for the ears, but also for the body that wants to jump and dance, as one of the song suggests with its title Hach Baregel.

The three 78 rpm discs gather 8 songs, several of which became standards. Some song texts, such as Al Tiruni, or El Ginat Egoz are inspired from the Bible, in particular from the Song of Songs, and speak of love in the vineyards and flowery gardens.

d78-25_476a_couv-2.jpgThe singer in these discs Ahuva Tsadok was born in 1928 in Tel-Aviv of Yemenite parents. She was accompanied at the piano by the composer and arranger Nachum Nardi, born in 1901 in Kiev. Let us mention that Nardi also accompanied the Yemenite singer Brakha Tzefira at the beginning of her career. Nachum Nardi also founded a girls choir in which Ahuva Tsadok sang in solo. Later she would become his partner on stage, and as a couple.
In the present box set, Ahuva Tsadok is also accompanied by other instruments whose names are unfortunately not mentioned.

This magnificent box set also included instructions on the various dance steps, written by Avraham Elber. Unfortunately, this document no longer was present in the box set when it was given tu us.
Nevertheless, and thanks to our digitising equipment, it is now possible to fully appreciate this pioneer’s music.

Enjoy !
