The UCEI (Union of Italian Jewish Communities) is the representative body of the Jewish community vis-à-vis the State.
The Union defends and preserves the religious interests of the Jews in Italy; it promotes the preservation of Jewish traditions and cultural heritage; it coordinates and integrates the activities of the Jewish communities; it maintains contacts with Jewish communities and organizations in other countries.

The Archives section of the Bibliographic Center (Tullia Zevi) preserves the documents of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities until 1986, as well as those of communities that have disappeared, such as those of Pitigliano and Senigallia; there are also some personal archives, such as those of S.D. Luzzatto, I. Artom and Tullia Zevi.
