Of gold and light, a musical journey through Jewish celebrations

MUSIQUES JUIVES D’HIER ET D’AUJOURD’HUI – JANUARY 17, JUDAÏQUES FM (94.8), 21H05. Program in French

Jewish music goes around the Mediterranean sea, through the Jewish calendar, from Roch Hashanah to Purim. From one style to another, from Hebrew Baroque to Judeo-Spanish romances, from lively rythms to melancholic melodies. With a great range of instruments, the Ensemble XVIII-21 Le Baroque Nomade performs this repertoire with sensitivity, with many improviations, contrasts, showing all the influences Jewish Music transports.

For more than 20 years, XVIII-21 Le Baroque Nomade, founded by Jean-Christophe Frisch in 1995, has distinguished itself in the baroque musical landscape by its humanistic and pioneering approach. Its latest CD, D’Or et de lumière (Or vezahav), takes us on a musical journey through the Mediterranean traditions and the festivals of Rosh Hashana, Hosha’ana raba (last day of Sukkot), Hannukah, Purim and Passover.

This radio programme, in the presence of Jean Christophe Frisch, will be an opportunity to review the career of this musician who has already published three CDs devoted to Jewish music: The Psalms of David / Benedetto Marcello; Schubert Klezmer and Or vezahav.

A cette occasion, nous entendrons des extraits de cantates juives baroques italiennes et d’airs traditionnels judéo-espagnols dans une interprétation particulièrement festive et réjouissante…
